And David commanded the chiefs of the Levites to appoint their brothers the singers with instruments of song, psalteries, and harps, and sounding cymbals, to lift up the voice for joy.
And they brought in the ark of God, and set it down in the middle of the tent that David had pitched for it. And they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God.
And David and the commanders of the army separated some to the service of the sons of Asaph and Heman and Jeduthun, who were prophets with harps, with lyres and with cymbals. And their number, of the workmen according to their service, was:
And these were the names of the sons of Levi by their generations: Gershon, and Kohath, and Merari. And the years of the life of Levi were a hundred and thirtyseven years.
And these are the numbered ones of the Levites by their families: of Gershon, the family of the Gershonites; of Kohath, the family of the Kohathites; of Merari, the family of the Merarites.
