The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes a glad father: but a foolish son is the grief of his mother.
And he spoke three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five.
The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;
A wise son hears his father's instruction: but a scoffer hears not rebuke.
A wise son makes a glad father: but a foolish man despises his mother.
He that begets a fool does it to his sorrow: and the father of a fool has no joy.
A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bore him.
A foolish son is the calamity of his father: and the contentions of a wife are a continual dripping.
These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied.
My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproaches me.
The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself brings his mother to shame.
Correct your son, and he shall give you rest; yea, he shall give delight unto your soul.
Whosoever loves wisdom rejoices his father: but he that keeps company with harlots wastes his substance.
And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he pondered, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.
And who knows whether he shall be a wise man or a fool? yet shall he have rule over all my labor in which I have labored, and in which I have shown myself wise under the sun. This is also vanity.
