By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loves: I sought him, but I found him not.

I sleep, but my heart wakes: it is the voice of my beloved that knocks, saying, Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my perfect one: for my head is filled with dew, and my locks with the drops of the night.

I have put off my robe; how shall I put it on? I have washed my feet; how could I soil them?

For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not delay.

But if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delays his coming;

After a long time the lord of those servants came, and settled accounts with them.

But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom comes; go out to meet him.

And he came unto the disciples, and found them asleep, and said unto Peter, What, could you not watch with me one hour?

And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.

And the people waited for Zachariah, and marveled that he tarried so long in the temple.

But if that servant says in his heart, My lord delays his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidservants, and to eat and drink, and to be drunk;

I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man comes, shall he find faith on the earth?

Then began he to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it out to tenants, and went into a far country for a long time.

And this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

Therefore he says, Awake you that sleep, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour:

But that which you have already hold fast till I come.
