He swallows the ground with fierceness and rage: neither does he halt at the sound of the trumpet.

If I mocked them, they believed it not; and the light of my countenance they cast not down.

Shall it be told him that I speak? if a man speaks, surely he shall be swallowed up.

The quiver rattles against him, the glittering spear and the javelin.

He says among the trumpets, Aha; and he smells the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.

If I had called, and he had answered me; yet would I not believe that he had hearkened unto my voice.

My soul, my soul! I am pained at my very heart; my heart makes a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because you have heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.

I hearkened and heard, but they spoke not aright: no man repented himself of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? everyone turned to his own course, as the horse rushes into the battle.

Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be calamity in a city, and the LORD has not done it?

And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have you here any food?
