As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets,

I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the revilings of the children of Ammon, by which they have reproached my people, and made boasts against their borders.

Therefore, you mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD; Thus says the Lord GOD to the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys, to the desolate wastes, and to the cities that are forsaken, which became a prey and derision to the rest of the nations that are round about;

Thus says the Lord GOD; Because the enemy has said against you, Aha, even the ancient high places are ours in possession:

As you did rejoice at the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so will I do unto you: you shall be desolate, O mount Seir, and all Edom, even all of it: and they shall know that I am the LORD.

To make their land desolate, and a perpetual hissing; everyone that passes by it shall be astonished, and shake his head.

We have become a reproach to our neighbors, a scorn and derision to them that are round about us.

You make us a reproach to our neighbors, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us.

I also could speak as you do: if your soul were in my soul’s place, I could heap up words against you, and shake my head at you.

So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves: all that see them shall flee away.

Jerusalem remembered in the days of her affliction and of her miseries all her pleasant things that she had in the days of old, when her people fell into the hand of the enemy, and none did help her: the adversaries saw her, and did mock at her sabbaths.

Is it nothing to you, all you that pass by? behold, and see if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is done unto me, which the LORD has afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger.
