Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness:

Unto whom I swore in my anger that they should not enter into my rest.

But I acted for my name’s sake, that it should not be polluted before the nations, in whose sight I brought them out.

I lifted up my hand unto them also in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the nations, and disperse them through the countries;

And I will purge out from among you the rebels, and them that transgress against me: I will bring them forth out of the country where they sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and you shall know that I am the LORD.

Because they ministered unto them before their idols, and caused the house of Israel to fall into iniquity; therefore have I lifted up my hand against them, says the Lord GOD, and they shall bear their iniquity.

So I swore in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)

And to whom swore he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?

For we who have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, they shall not enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
