For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.

See a man wise in his own eyes? there is more hope of a fool than of him.

The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank you, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector.

For not he that commends himself is approved, but whom the Lord commends.

For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ has not worked by me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed,

Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you?

It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search out their own glory is not glory.

For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to boast on our behalf, that you may have something to answer them who boast in appearance, and not in heart.

No doubt you are the people, and wisdom shall die with you.

Let such a one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present.
