For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, not violent, not given to dishonest gain;

To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, showing all meekness unto all men.

And be not drunk with wine, in which is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

Likewise must the deacons be grave, not double tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of dishonest gain;

From where come wars and fightings among you? come they not from here, even of your lusts that war in your members?

But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up by wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment.

Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for dishonest gain, but of a ready mind;

Let your conduct be without covetousness; and be content with such things as you have: for he has said, I will never leave you, nor forsake you.

The aged women likewise, that they be in behavior as becomes holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;

Do not drink wine nor strong drink, you, nor your sons with you, when you go into the tabernacle of meeting, lest you die: it shall be a statute forever throughout your generations:

I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.

And through covetousness shall they with false words exploit you: whose judgment of old now lingers not, and their destruction slumbers not.

Whose mouths must be stopped, who ruin whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for dishonest gain.

Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are idle, encourage the faint-hearted, support the weak, be patient toward all men.

For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the innocent.

I have coveted no man's silver, or gold, or apparel.

And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but you have made it a den of thieves.

Who is there even among you that would shut the doors for nothing? neither do you kindle fire on my altar for nothing. I have no pleasure in you, says the LORD of hosts, neither will I accept an offering at your hand.

Her heads judge for reward, and her priests teach for hire, and her prophets divine for money: yet will they lean upon the LORD, and say, Is not the LORD among us? no evil can come upon us.

Thus says the LORD: Concerning the prophets who make my people stray, who bite with their teeth, and cry, Peace; and he that puts nothing into their mouths, they even prepare war against him.

If a man walking in the spirit of falsehood does lie, saying, I will prophesy unto you of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people.

Neither shall any priest drink wine, when they enter into the inner court.

Therefore will I give their wives unto others, and their fields to them that shall inherit them: for everyone from the least even unto the greatest is given to covetousness, from the prophet even unto the priest everyone deals falsely.

For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them everyone is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest everyone deals falsely.

Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, which is on the head of the rich valleys of them that are overcome with wine!

Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.

He that is greedy of gain troubles his own house; but he that hates bribes shall live.

So are the ways of everyone that is greedy of gain; which takes away the life of its owners.

And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after gain, and took bribes, and perverted justice.

For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
