And even things without life which give sound, whether flute or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is played?

And saying, We have piped unto you, and you have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and you have not lamented.

They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and you have not danced; we have mourned to you, and you have not wept.

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not love, I am become as sounding brass, or a clanging cymbal.

Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?

For if the trumpet gives an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself for the battle?

After that you shall come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when you are come there to the city, that you shall meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a harp, and a tambourine, and a flute, and a lyre, before them; and they shall prophesy:
