And after Ahithophel was Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar: and the general of the king’s army was Joab.
And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over both the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David’s sons were chief rulers.
And he conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest: and they following Adonijah helped him.
And David said, Whosoever smites the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. So Joab the son of Zeruiah went first up, and was chief.
And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud, recorder.
The third captain of the army for the third month was Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the priest, as chief: and in his division were twenty and four thousand.
