Therfor he seid to the puple, which wente out to be baptisid of hym, Kyndlyngis of eddris, who schewide to you to fle fro the wraththe to comynge?

Ye eddris, and eddris briddis, hou schulen ye fle fro the doom of helle?

whom he reiside fro deth, the Lord Jhesu, that delyuerede us fro wraththe to comynge.

Ye generacioun of eddris, hou moun ye speke goode thingis, whanne ye ben yuele? For the mouth spekith of plente of the herte.

thou ful of al gile, and al falsnesse, thou sone of the deuel, thou enemye of al riytwisnesse, thou leeuest not to turne vpsodoun the riytful weies of the Lord.

Whi knowen ye not my speche? for ye moun not here my word.

and thei weren waischun of hym in Jordan, `and knowlechiden her synnes.
