Then, on going out at nine o'clock he noticed some other labourers standing in the marketplace doing nothing;

Are we to pay, or are we not to pay?" But he saw their trick and said to them, "Why tempt me? Bring me a shilling. Let me see it."

"Show me a shilling. Whose likeness and inscription does it bear?" "Caesar's," they replied.

When those who had been hired about five o'clock came, they got a shilling each.
