When they reached the disciples they saw a large crowd round them, and some scribes arguing with them.
They came up and said to him, "Teacher, we know you are sincere and fearless; you do not court human favour, you teach the Way of God honestly. Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?
and asked him, "What authority have you for acting in this way? Who gave you authority to act in this way?"
Now there were some scribes sitting there who argued in their hearts,
Compare him who steadily endured all that hostility from sinful men, so as to keep your own hearts from fainting and failing.
As for Elijah, I tell you he has come already, and they have done to him whatever they pleased — as it is written of him."
Then Paul entered the synagogue and for three months spoke out fearlessly, arguing and persuading people about the Reign of God.
