though this was how God fulfilled what he had announced beforehand by the lips of all the prophets, namely the sufferings of his Christ.

In their case the prophecy of Isaiah is being fulfilled: You will hear and hear but never understand, you will see and see but never perceive.

You search the scriptures, imagining you possess eternal life in their pages — and they do testify to me —
