Jesus answered him, "It has been said, You shall not tempt the Lord your God."

Nor must we presume upon the Lord as some of them did — only to be destroyed by serpents.

Jesus said to him, "It is written again, You shall not tempt the Lord your God."

And after exhausting every kind of temptation the devil left him till a fit opportunity arrived.
