Then Annas had him bound and sent him to Caiaphas the high priest.

(He did not say this simply of his own accord; he was high priest that year, and his words were a prophecy that Jesus was to die for the nation,

during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the desert;

but those who had seized Jesus took him away to the house of Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and elders had gathered.

Then the high priests and the elders of the people met in the palace of the high priest who was called Caiaphas

which was attended by the high priest Annas, by Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and all the members of the high priest's family.

But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said, "You know nothing about it —

Then from the house of Caiaphas they took Jesus to the praetorium. (It was early morning.) They would not enter the praetorium themselves, in case of being ceremonially defiled, for they wanted to eat the passover;

Jesus answered, "You would have no power over me, unless it had been granted you from above. So you are less guilty than he who betrayed me to you."
