for I have been setting you an example, that you should do what I have done to you.

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find your souls refreshed;

he who says he 'remains in him' ought to live as he lived.

It is your vocation; for when Christ suffered for you, he left you an example, and you must follow his footsteps.

and lead lives of love, just as Christ loved you and gave himself up for you to be a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

May the God who inspires stedfastness and encouragement grant you such harmony with one another, after Christ Jesus,

not by way of lording it over your charges but proving a pattern to the flock.
