Said Martha to Jesus, "Had you been here, Lord, my brother would not have died.
But when Mary came to where Jesus was and saw him, she dropped at his feet, crying, "Had you been here, Lord, my brother would not have died."
As he said this, an official came in and knelt before him, saying, "My daughter is just dead; do come and lay your hand on her, and she will live."
though some of them asked, "Could he not have prevented him from dying, when he could open a blind man's eyes?"
(The Mary whose brother Lazarus was ill was the Mary who anointed the Lord with perfume and wiped his feet with her hair.)
so the sisters sent to him, saying, "Lord, he whom you love is ill."
