Now there was a man ill, Lazarus of Bethany — the village of Mary and her sister Martha.
Now the people who were with him when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead, testified to it;
Now the great mass of the Jews learned he was there, and they came not only on account of Jesus but to see Lazarus whom he had raised from the dead.
This he said, then added, "Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; I am going to waken him."
Then he left them and went outside the city to Bethany, where he spent the night.
She happened to take ill and die at this time, and after washing her body they laid it in an upper room.
so the sisters sent to him, saying, "Lord, he whom you love is ill."
Now when they came near Jerusalem, near Bethphage and Bethany, at the Hill of Olives, he despatched two of his disciples,
