They asked him, "Then what are you? Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" "No," he answered.
if you care to believe it, he is the Elijah who is to come.
so they asked him, saying, "Then why are you baptizing people, if you are neither the Christ nor Elijah nor the Prophet?"
They told him, "Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, others Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
On hearing this some of the people said, "This really is the Prophet";
he will go in front of Him with the spirit and power of Elijah to turn the hearts of fathers to their children, turning the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make a people ready and prepared for the Lord."
and the crowds replied, "This is the prophet Jesus from Nazaret in Galilee!"
"Then who are you?" they said; "tell us, so that we can give some answer to those who sent us. What have you to say for yourself?"
Now when the people saw the Sign he had performed, they said, "This really is the Prophet who is to come into the world!"
