Why, it is as with Abraham, he had faith in God and that was counted to him as righteousness.

God has not repudiated his People, his predestined People! Surely you know what scripture says in the passage called 'Elijah'? You know how he pleads with God against Israel:

but Scripture has consigned all without exception to the custody of sin, in order that the promise due to faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who have faith.

Why, scripture says to Pharaoh, It was for this that I raised you up, to display my power in you, and to spread news of my name over all the earth.

and he proceeded to tell them that "To-day, this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."

You observe it is by what he does that a man is justified, not simply by what he believes.
