Wives, be subject to your husbands; that is your proper duty in the Lord.

to be mistress of themselves, chaste, domestic, kind, and submissive to their husbands — otherwise it will be a scandal to the gospel.

Wives, be subject to your husbands as to the Lord,

women must keep quiet at gatherings of the church. They are not allowed to speak; they must take a subordinate place, as the Law enjoins.

Servants, be obedient to those who are your masters here below with reverence and trembling, with singleness of heart as to Christ himself;

Since then you have been raised with Christ, aim at what is above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God;
