Which of the prophets did your fathers fail to persecute? They killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Just One. And here you have betrayed him, murdered him! —

rejoice and exult in it, for your reward is rich in heaven; that is how they persecuted the prophets before you.

this Jesus, betrayed in the predestined course of God's deliberate purpose, you got wicked men to nail to the cross and murder;

Then to the angel of the church at Philadelphia write thus: — These are the words of the true Holy One, who holds the key of David, who opens and none shall shut, who shuts and none shall open.

rejoice on that day and leap for joy! rich is your reward in heaven for their fathers did the very same to the prophets.

of righteousness, because I go to the Father and you see me no more;

they will be treacherous, reckless and conceited, preferring pleasure to God —
