After staying not more than eight or ten days with them, he went down to Caesarea. Next day he took his seat on the tribunal and ordered Paul to be brought before him.

Well, the day after they came here along with me, I took my seat on the tribunal without any loss of time. I ordered the man to be brought in,

Paul said, "I am standing before Caesar's tribunal; that is where I ought to be tried. I have done no wrong whatever to the Jews — you know that perfectly well.

Besides, when he was seated on the tribunal, his wife had sent to tell him, "Do nothing with that innocent man, for I have suffered greatly to-day in a dream about him.")

Now you insult the poor. Is it not the rich who lord it over you and drag you to court?

for we have all to appear without disguise before the tribunal of Christ, each to be requited for what he has done with his body, well or ill.

On hearing this, Pilate brought Jesus out and seated him on the tribunal at a spot called the 'mosaic pavement' — the Hebrew name is Gabbatha

while Philip found himself at Azotus, where he passed on, preaching the gospel in every town, till he reached Caesarea.

Three days after Festus entered his province, he went up from Caesarea to Jerusalem.

Festus replied that Paul would be kept in custody at Caesarea, but that he himself meant to leave for Caesarea before long —

"when," he added, "your competent authorities can come down with me and charge the man with whatever crime he has committed."
