On entering the city they went to the upper room where they were in the habit of meeting; there were Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James (the son of Alphaeus) and Simon who had been a Zealot, with Judas the son of James.

But Peter stood up along with the eleven, and raising his voice he addressed them thus: "Men of Judaea and residents in Jerusalem, let everyone of you understand this — attend to what I say:

Simon Peter, Thomas (who was called 'the Twin'), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the two sons of Zebedaeus, and two other disciples of his, were all together.

The maidservant at the door then said to Peter, "Are you not one of this fellow's disciples?" He said, "No."

Whereupon Thomas (called 'the Twin') said to his fellow-disciples, "Let us go too, let us die along with him!"

But he took Peter and James and John along with him; and as he began to feel appalled and agitated,

Six days afterwards Jesus took Peter, James and John, and led them up a high hill by themselves alone; in their presence he was transfigured,

He would not allow anyone to accompany him except Peter and James and John the brother of James.

As Jesus passed along from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax-office; he said to him, "Follow me"; and he rose and followed him.

The presbyter, to the elect Lady and her children whom I love in the Truth (and not only I but all who know the Truth)

after that, he was seen by James, then by all the apostles,

"Lord," said Judas (not Judas Iscariot), "why is it that you are to appear to us, and not to the world?"
