The quarrel then became so violent that the commander was afraid they would tear Paul in pieces; he therefore ordered the troops to march down and take him from them by force, bringing him inside the barracks.

So be on the alert, remember how for three whole years I never ceased night and day to watch over each one of you with tears.

They chose presbyters for them in every church, and with prayer and fasting entrusted them to the Lord in whom they had believed.

But Jews from Antioch and Iconium arrived, who won over the crowds, and after pelting Paul with stones they dragged him outside the town, thinking he was dead.

Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and let them go.

they laid hands on the apostles and put them into the public prison,

he sent and had John beheaded in the prison,

For Herod had arrested John and bound him and put him in prison on account of Herodias the wife of his brother Philip,

Jesus said to them, "Can friends at a wedding mourn so long as the bride groom is beside them? A time will come when the bridegroom is taken from them, and then they will fast.
