We would like you, brothers, to understand about those who are asleep in death. You must not grieve for them, like the rest of men who have no hope.

But I want you to understand about spiritual gifts, brothers.

among whom all of us lived, we as well as you, when we obeyed the passions of our flesh, carrying out the dictates of the flesh and its impulses, when we were objects of God's anger by nature, like the rest of men.

Since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, then it follows that by means of Jesus God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.

Well then, we must not sleep like the rest of men, but be wakeful and sober;
