Then they went along through the wilderness, and compassed the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, but came not within the border of Moab: for Arnon was the border of Moab.
(As the children of Esav which dwell in Seir, and the Moabites which dwell in Ar, did unto me;) until I shall pass over Yarden into the land which YY our Elohim giveth us.
Wilt not thou possess that which Kmosh thy Elohim giveth thee to possess? So whomsoever YY our Elohim shall drive out from before us, them will we possess.
And Sihon would not suffer Yisrael to pass through his border: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Yisrael into the wilderness: and he came to YAHaz, and fought against Yisrael.
Then Yisrael sent messengers unto the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, pass through thy land: but the king of Edom would not hearken thereto. And in like manner they sent unto the king of Moab: but he would not consent: and Yisrael abode in Kadesh.
And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.
And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Yisrael invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;
