Only the land of the kohanim bought he not; for the kohanim had a portion assigned them of Pharaoh, and did eat their portion which Pharaoh gave them: wherefore they sold not their lands.
Also we certify you, that touching any of the kohanim and Lvim, singers, porters, Nethinims, or ministers of this house of Elohim, it shall not be Lawful to impose toll, tribute, or custom, upon them.
Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the Temple? and they which wait at the Altar are partakers with the Altar?
And I perceived that the portions of the Lvim had not been given them: for the Lvim and the singers, that did the work, were fled every one to his field.
And Pharaoh called Yosef's name Zaphnathpaaneah; and he gave him to wife Asenath the daughter of Potipherah kohen of On. And Yosef went out over all the land of Egypt.
And Yosef made it a Torah over the land of Egypt unto this day, that Pharaoh should have the fifth part, except the land of the kohanim only, which became not Pharaoh's.
