By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Yitzchak and Yaakov, the heirs with him of the same promise:
Are they not on the other side Yarden, by the way where the sun goeth down, in the land of the Kenaanim, which dwell in the champaign over against Gilgal, beside the plains of Moreh?
And they gave unto Yaakov all the strange elohim which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Yaakov hid them under the oak which was by Shkhem.
Then Yerubaal, who is Gidon, and all the people that were with him, rose up early, and pitched beside the well of Harod: so that the host of the Midianites were on the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley.
And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram's cattle and the herdmen of Lot's cattle: and the Kenaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.
And Abimelech the son of Yerubaal went to Shkhem unto his mother's brethren, and communed with them, and with all the family of the house of his mother's father, saying,
And the bones of Yosef, which the children of Yisrael brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shkhem, in a parcel of ground which Yaakov bought of the sons of Hamor the father of Shkhem for an hundred pieces of silver: and it became the inheritance of the children of Yosef.
And Yaakov said to Shimon and Levi, Ye have troubled me to make me to stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the Kenaanim and the Perizzites: and I being few in number, they shall gather themselves together against me, and slay me; and I shall be destroyed, I and my house.
