In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of YY came to Yirmeyah-yahu the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Yerushalayim.

For thus saith YY , That after seventy years be accomplished at Bavel I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.

To fulfil the word of YY by the mouth of Yirmeyah-yahu, until the land had enjoyed her Sabbaths: for as long as she lay desolate she kept Sabbath, to fulfil threescore and ten years.

Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.

Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the kohanim, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh month, even those seventy years, did ye at all fast unto me, even to me?

Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of YY by the mouth of Yirmeyah-yahu might be fulfilled, YY stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying,

Therefore shall TZiyon for your sake be plowed as a field, and Yerushalayim shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest.

And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son's son, until the very time of his land come: and then many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of him.

To wit, Yerushalayim, and the cities of Yhudah, and the kings thereof, and the princes thereof, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, an hissing, and a curse; as it is this day;

Then will I cause to cease from the cities of Yhudah, and from the streets of Yerushalayim, the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride: for the land shall be desolate.

Thy holy cities are a wilderness, TZiyon is a wilderness, Yerushalayim a desolation.

Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to teaching.

And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?

But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Yhudah flee to the mountains:

When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

How doth the city sit solitary, that was full of people! how is she become as a widow! she that was great among the nations, and princess among the provinces, how is she become tributary!

Then will I make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.

Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counselors.

Mikhah the Morasthite prophesied in the days of Hizkiyah-yahu king of Yhudah, and spake to all the people of Yhudah, saying, Thus saith YY -TZvaot; TZiyon shall be plowed like a field, and Yerushalayim shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.

The words of Yirmeyah-yahu the son of Hilkiah, of the kohanim that were in Anathoth in the land of Binyamin:

And I set my face unto YY Elohim, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:

Then the angel of YY answered and said, O YY -TZvaot, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Yerushalayim and on the cities of Yhudah, against which thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten years?

No foot of man shall pass through it, nor foot of beast shall pass through it, neither shall it be inhabited forty years.
