Then Nahash the Ammonite came up, and encamped against JabeshGilad: and all the men of Jabesh said unto Nahash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee.

And when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said unto me, Nay; but a king shall reign over us: when YY your Elohim was your king.

And hath taken of the king's seed, and made a covenant with him, and hath taken an oath of him: he hath also taken the mighty of the land:

And Ben-hadad said unto him, The cities, which my father took from thy father, I will restore; and thou shalt make streets for thee in Dammesek, as my father made in Shomron. Then said Achav, I will send thee away with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and sent him away.

And they said, What one is there of the tribes of Yisrael that came not up to Mizpeh to YY ? And, behold, there came none to the camp from JabeshGilad to the assembly.

And they said, We saw certainly that YY was with thee: and we said, Let there be now an oath betwixt us, even betwixt us and thee, and let us make a covenant with thee;

Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for ever?

Thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor with their elohim.

Hearken not to Hizkiyah-yahu: for thus saith the king of Ashur, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me: and eat ye every one of his vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his own cistern;

And the anger of YY was hot against Yisrael, and he sold them into the hands of the Plishtim, and into the hands of the children of Ammon.

An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of YY ; even to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the congregation of YY for ever:

So Saul took the kingdom over Yisrael, and fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Plishtim: and whithersoever he turned himself, he vexed them.

And it came to pass after this, that the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his stead.

Then said David, I will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father shewed kindness unto me. And David sent to comfort him by the hand of his servants for his father. And David's servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.

And it came to pass, when David was come to Mahanaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel of Lodebar, and Barzillai the Giladi of Rogelim,

Likewise when all the Jews that were in Moab, and among the Ammonites, and in Edom, and that were in all the countries, heard that the king of Bavel had left a remnant of Yhudah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan;

And said unto him, Dost thou certainly know that Baalis the king of the Ammonites hath sent Yishmael the son of Nethaniah to slay thee? But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam believed them not.

And it came to pass in process of time, that the children of Ammon made war against Yisrael.

And David sent messengers unto the men of JabeshGilad, and said unto them, Blessed be ye of YY , that ye have shewed this kindness unto your YY , even unto Saul, and have buried him.

And when all JabeshGilad heard all that the Plishtim had done to Saul,

They arose, all the valiant men, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
