The Lord listens to poor, helpless people. He does not turn away from those who are in prison.

God provides homes for those who are lonely. He frees people from prison and makes them happy. But those who turn against him will live in the desert.

He does what is right for those who have been hurt. He gives food to the hungry. The Lord frees people locked up in prison.

They took advantage of the poor and stole what little they had. But the Lord knows what they did, and he says, “I will rescue those who are poor and helpless, and I will punish those who hurt them.”

Don’t be afraid of what will happen to you. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison. He will do this to test you. You will suffer for ten days, but be faithful, even if you have to die. If you continue to be faithful, I will give you the reward of life.

So I, Paul, am a prisoner because I serve Christ Jesus for you who are not Jews.

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me. He has chosen me to tell good news to the poor. He sent me to tell prisoners that they are free and to tell the blind that they can see again. He sent me to free those who have been treated badly

And he will hear the prisoner’s prayers. He will free those who were condemned to die.

He will listen to the prayers of those in poverty. He will not ignore them.

As a poor, helpless man I prayed to the Lord, and he heard me. He saved me from all my troubles.

Lord, you have heard what the poor want. Listen to their prayers, and do what they ask.

I am the one who made all things. They are all here because I made them,” says the Lord. “These are the people I care for: the poor, humble people who obey my commands.

Some of God’s people were prisoners, locked behind bars in dark prisons.

May those in faraway countries remember the Lord and come back to him. May those in distant lands worship him,

Praise the Lord with me. Let us honor his name.

The Lord says this to the nation of Israel: “Come looking for me and live.

Come to the Lord and live. If you don’t go to him, a fire will start at Joseph’s house, and no one in Bethel can stop it.
