I ask only one thing from the Lord. This is what I want most: Let me live in the Lord’s house all my life, enjoying the Lord’s beauty and spending time in his palace.

Your goodness and mercy will be with me all my life, and I will live in the Lord’s house a long, long time.

Protect me like the pupil of your eye. Hide me in the shadow of your wings.

You can go to him for protection. He will cover you like a bird spreading its wings over its babies. You can trust him to surround and protect you like a shield.

That is because you are the one who helps me. It makes me happy to be under your protection!

God, be merciful to me. Be kind because my soul trusts in you. I have come to you for protection, while the trouble passes.

Lord, who can live in your Holy Tent? Who can live on your holy mountain?

“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem! You kill the prophets. You stone to death those that God has sent to you. Many, many times I wanted to help your people. I wanted to gather them together as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings. But you did not let me.

My victory and honor come from God. He is the mighty Rock, where I am safe.

The Lord will reward you for all the good things you have done. The Lord, the God of Israel, will pay you in full. You have come to him for safety, and he will protect you.”

Those who win the victory will be pillars in the temple of my God. I will make that happen for them. They will never again have to leave God’s temple. I will write on them the name of my God and the name of the city of my God. That city is the new Jerusalem. It is coming down out of heaven from my God. I will also write my new name on them.

You can go to God Most High to hide. You can go to God All-Powerful for protection.

These two things cannot change: God cannot lie when he says something, and he cannot lie when he makes an oath. So these two things are a great help to us who have come to God for safety. They encourage us to hold on to the hope that is ours.

They are planted in the house of the Lord. They grow strong there in the courtyards of our God.

My Lord, you have been our home forever and ever.

Let him rule in your presence forever. Protect him with your faithful love.

The name of the Lord is like a strong tower. Those who do what is right can run to him for protection.
