When people do not listen to God’s teachings, he does not listen to their prayers.

God hates sacrifices from the wicked, especially when their reason for offering them is evil.

The Lord hates the offerings of the wicked, but he is happy to hear the prayers of those who live right.

But people who depend on following the law to make them right are under a curse. As the Scriptures say, “They must do everything that is written in the law. If they do not always obey, they are under a curse.”

What the law says is for those who are under the law. It stops anyone from making excuses. And it brings the whole world under God’s judgment,

“It will be bad for you teachers of the law and you Pharisees! You are hypocrites! You close the way for people to enter God’s kingdom. You yourselves don’t enter, and you stop those who are trying to enter.

Some people kill bulls as a sacrifice, but they also beat people. They kill sheep as a sacrifice, but they also break the necks of dogs. They offer up grain offerings, but they also offer the blood of pigs. They burn incense, but they also love their worthless idols. They choose their own ways, and they love their terrible idols.

“When you raise your arms to pray to me, I will refuse to look at you. You will say more and more prayers, but I will refuse to listen because your hands are covered with blood.
