The people held him as a prisoner and waited for the Lord’s command to be made clear to them.

Moses said to them, “I will ask the Lord what he says about this.”

The people who saw him gathering the wood brought him to Moses and Aaron and the whole community of Israel.

Jethro saw Moses judging the people. He asked, “Why are you doing this? Why are you the only judge? And why do people come to you all day?”

Then Moses said to his father-in-law, “The people come to me and ask me to ask for God’s decision for their problem.
