Many tax collectors and sinners came to listen to Jesus.

Someone who is not a believer might invite you to eat with them. If you want to go, then eat anything that is put before you. Don’t ask questions to see if it is something you think is wrong to eat.

There they had a dinner for Jesus. Martha served the food, and Lazarus was one of the people eating with Jesus.

Later that day, Jesus and his followers ate at Levi’s house. There were also many tax collectors and others with bad reputations eating with them. (There were many of these people who followed Jesus.)

Jesus ate dinner at Matthew’s house. Many tax collectors and others with bad reputations came and ate with him and his followers.

If you love only those who love you, why should you get a reward for that? Even the tax collectors do that.

When Jesus was leaving, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the place for collecting taxes. Jesus said to him, “Follow me.” So he got up and followed Jesus.

The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and people say, ‘Look at him! He eats too much and drinks too much wine. He’s a friend of tax collectors and other sinners.’ But wisdom is shown to be right by what it does.”
