But a man named Ebed Melech heard that the officials had put Jeremiah into the cistern. Ebed Melech was from Ethiopia, and he was a eunuch in the king’s palace. King Zedekiah was sitting at the Benjamin Gate, so Ebed Melech left the king’s palace and went to talk to the king at the gate.

These two things cannot change: God cannot lie when he says something, and he cannot lie when he makes an oath. So these two things are a great help to us who have come to God for safety. They encourage us to hold on to the hope that is ours.

Her husband is a respected member of the city council, where he meets with the other leaders.

Lord, don’t treat me like one of those sinners. Don’t kill me with those murderers.

Anyone who kills someone accidentally can go to a city of safety to hide from the relatives who want to kill him.
