If I had not come and spoken to the people of the world, they would not be guilty of sin. But now I have spoken to them. So they have no excuse for their sin.

Jesus said, “If you were really blind, you would not be guilty of sin. But you say that you see, so you are still guilty.”

If you fail to do what you know is right, you are sinning.

In the past people did not understand God, and he overlooked this. But now he is telling everyone in the world to change and turn to him.

There are things about God that people cannot see—his eternal power and all that makes him God. But since the beginning of the world, those things have been easy for people to understand. They are made clear in what God has made. So people have no excuse for the evil they do.

But there is a judge for all those who refuse to believe in me and do not accept what I say. The message I have spoken will judge them on the last day.

Live like free people, but don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil. Live as those who are serving God.

So do you think that you can judge those other people? You are wrong. You too are guilty of sin. You judge them, but you do the same things they do. So when you judge them, you are really condemning yourself.

Then the master will come when the servant is not ready, at a time when the servant is not expecting him. Then the master will punish that servant and send him away to be with the other people who don’t obey.

They are people who refuse to obey, so they may not listen to you. But even if they don’t stop sinning, at least they will know that there is a prophet living among them.

Jesus answered, “The only power you have over me is the power given to you by God. So the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin.”

“Whoever hates me also hates my Father.

I did things among the people of the world that no one else has ever done. If I had not done those things, they would not be guilty of sin. But they have seen what I did, and still they hate me and my Father.

He will prove that they are guilty of sin, because they don’t believe in me.
