In the morning you will say, ‘I wish it were evening!’ In the evening you will say, ‘I wish it were morning!’ This will happen because of the fear in your heart and the terrible things you will see.

You would not let me sleep. I tried to say something, but I was too upset.

Everything is confused— night is day, and evening comes when it should be dawn.

“You poor city! Enemies came against you like storms, and no one comforted you. But I will rebuild you. I will use a beautiful mortar to lay the stones of your walls. I will use sapphire stones when I lay the foundation.

I am waiting for my Lord, like a guard waiting and waiting for the morning to come.

I feel my life is over, fading like a shadow at day’s end. I feel like a bug that someone brushed away.

Lord, I am so weak. I cried to you all night. My pillow is soaked; my bed is dripping wet from my tears.

All my bones ache at night. Pain never stops chewing on me.
