I worked 20 years like a slave for you. For the first 14 years I worked to win your two daughters. The last six years I worked to earn your animals. And during that time you changed my pay ten times.

But he cheated me. He has changed my pay ten times. But during all this time, God protected me from all of Laban’s tricks.

In my constant traveling I have been in danger from rivers, from thieves, from my own people, and from people who are not Jews. I have been in danger in cities, in places where no one lives, and on the sea. And I have been in danger from people who pretend to be believers but are not.

But, because of God’s grace, that is what I am. And his grace that he gave me was not wasted. I worked harder than all the other apostles. (But I was not really the one working. It was God’s grace that was with me.)

I have worked 20 years for you. During all that time none of the baby sheep and goats died during birth. And I have not eaten any of the rams from your flocks.

Stay with him for a short time until your brother stops being angry.

One day Laban said to Jacob, “You are a relative of mine. It is not right for you to continue working for me without pay. What should I pay you?”

Tell me what I should pay you, and I will give it to you.”

In the daytime the sun took away my strength, and at night sleep was taken from my eyes by the cold.

He told them, “Tell this to my master Esau: ‘Your servant Jacob says, I have lived with Laban all these years.

You both know that I have worked as hard as I could for your father.
