They took all the women in Ziklag, both young and old, as prisoners. They didn’t kill anyone; they only took them as prisoners.

Abimelech said, “You have done a bad thing to us. One of our men might have had sex with your wife. Then he would be guilty of a great sin.”

Pharaoh called Abram and said to him, “You have done a very bad thing to me! Why didn’t you tell me Sarai was your wife?

Then the Lord said, “What have you done? You killed your brother and the ground opened up to take his blood from your hands. Now his blood is shouting to me from the ground. So you will be cursed from this ground.

Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What have you done?” She said, “The snake tricked me, so I ate the fruit.”

That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife. In this way two people become one.

Pilate said, “I’m not a Jew! It was your own people and their leading priests who brought you before me. What have you done wrong?”

The next morning Laban caught up with Jacob. Jacob had set up his camp on the mountain, so Laban and all his men set up their camp in the hill country of Gilead.

Why did you run away without telling me? If you had told me, I would have given you a party. There would have been singing and dancing with music.

In the morning Jacob saw that it was Leah he had slept with, and he said to Laban, “You have tricked me. I worked hard for you so that I could marry Rachel. Why did you trick me?”
