You must remember that the Lord your God teaches and corrects you as a father teaches and corrects his son.

“I correct and punish the people I love. So show that nothing is more important to you than living right. Change your hearts and lives.

The Lord corrects the one he loves, just as a father corrects a child he cares about.

I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he sins, I will use other people to punish him. They will be my whips.

But when the Lord judges us, he punishes us to show us the right way. He does this so that we will not be condemned with the world.

Lord, great blessings belong to those you discipline, to those you teach from your law.

They saw how wicked they were and came back to me. They stopped doing the evil things they did in the past. So they will live! They will not die!”

I will punish them severely for their sins and wrongs.

But you must be careful! Be sure that as long as you live you never forget what you have seen. You must teach these things to your children and grandchildren.

So, son of man, pack some things as if you are leaving on a trip. Pretend that you are a prisoner being taken far away. Do this during the day so that everyone can see you. Even though these people refuse to listen to me, maybe when they see you going away, they will understand what I have been trying to tell them.

You must be careful not to forget the agreement that the Lord your God made with you. You must obey the Lord’s command. Don’t make any idols in any form,

A bull knows its master, and a donkey knows where its owner feeds it. But Israel does not know me. My people do not understand.”

He let you hear his voice from heaven so that he could teach you a lesson. On earth he let you see his great fire, and he spoke to you from it.

“You must obey the commands of the Lord your God. Follow him and respect him.

If you don’t correct your children, you don’t love them. If you love them, you will be quick to discipline them.

When life is good, enjoy it. But when life is hard, remember that God gives us good times and hard times. And no one knows what will happen in the future.

You saw what happened in the desert. You saw how the Lord your God carried you like a man carries his child. He brought you safely all the way to this place.’

My son, don’t reject the Lord’s discipline, and don’t be angry when he corrects you.
