Acts 7:2

Stephen answered, “My Jewish fathers and brothers, listen to me. Our great and glorious God appeared to Abraham, our ancestor, when he was in Mesopotamia. This was before he lived in Haran.

Terah took his family and left Ur of Babylonia. They planned to travel to Canaan. Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot (Haran’s son), and his daughter-in-law Sarai (Abram’s wife). They traveled to the city of Haran and decided to stay there.

Paul said, “My brothers and fathers, listen to me! I will make my defense to you.”

The Lord’s voice can be heard over the sea. The voice of our glorious Lord God is like thunder over the great ocean.

The Son shows the glory of God. He is a perfect copy of God’s nature, and he holds everything together by his powerful command. The Son made people clean from their sins. Then he sat down at the right side of God, the Great One in heaven.

The Word became a man and lived among us. We saw his divine greatness—the greatness that belongs to the only Son of the Father. The Word was full of grace and truth.

You are the Lord, the God who chose Abram. You led him from Ur in Babylonia. You changed his name to Abraham.

He said to Abram, “I am the Lord who led you from Ur of Babylonia. I did this so that I could give you this land. You will own this land.”

“Our Lord and God! You are worthy to receive glory and honor and power. You made all things. Everything existed and was made because you wanted it.”

We should live like that while we are waiting for the coming of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ. He is our great hope, and he will come with glory.

None of the rulers of this world understood this wisdom. If they had understood it, they would not have killed our great and glorious Lord on a cross.

When Paul said this, a big argument started between the Pharisees and the Sadducees. The group was divided.

Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus’ divine greatness. So he spoke about him.

“Praise God in heaven, and on earth let there be peace to the people who please him.”

Don’t let us be tempted, but save us from the Evil One.’

Abraham is your father, so look at him. Look at Sarah, who gave birth to you. Abraham was alone when I called him. Then I blessed him, and he began a great family with many descendants.”

The angels were calling to each other, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord All-Powerful. His Glory fills the whole earth.”

Who is the glorious King? The Lord All-Powerful is the glorious King. Selah

Gates, proudly lift your heads! Open, ancient doors, and the glorious King will come in.

Then Joshua spoke to all the people. He said, “I am telling you what the Lord, the God of Israel, says to you: ‘A long time ago, your ancestors lived on the other side of the Euphrates River. I am talking about men like Terah, the father of Abraham and Nahor. At that time they worshiped other gods.

Jacob said to the shepherds there, “Brothers, where are you from?” They answered, “We are from Haran.”

He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the slaves, and all the other things he had gotten in Haran. Then he and his group moved to the land of Canaan.

The Lord said to Abram, “Leave your country and your people. Leave your father’s family and go to the country that I will show you.

Did the gods of those people save them? No, my ancestors destroyed them all. They destroyed the cities of Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the people of Eden living in Tel Assar.

The high priest said to Stephen, “Is all this true?”

I always pray to the great and glorious Father, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ. I pray that he will give you the Spirit, who will let you know truths about God and help you understand them, so that you will know him better.

God called Abraham to travel to another place that he promised to give him. Abraham did not know where that other place was. But he obeyed God and started traveling because he had faith.

My dear brothers and sisters, you are believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ. So don’t treat some people better than others.
