Jonathan’s son Mephibosheth came to David and bowed with his face low to the floor. David said, “Mephibosheth?” Mephibosheth said, “Yes sir, it is I, your servant Mephibosheth.”

Then King David sent some of his officers to Lo Debar to bring Jonathan’s son from the house of Makir son of Ammiel.

Saul looked back and saw me. He called to me and I answered him.

But the king protected Jonathan’s son, Mephibosheth. Jonathan was Saul’s son, and David had made a promise in the Lord’s name to Jonathan. So the king did not let them hurt Mephibosheth.
