Benaiah was even more famous than the Thirty Heroes, but he did not become a member of the Three Heroes. David made Benaiah the leader of his bodyguards.

He was the same Benaiah who was a brave soldier from the Thirty Heroes. He led these men. His son Ammizabad was in charge of Banaiah’s group.

Joab was captain of the whole army of Israel. Benaiah son of Jehoiada led the Kerethites and Pelethites.

David also took many things made of bronze from Tebah and Berothai. (Tebah and Berothai were cities that had belonged to Hadadezer.)

Ahimelech answered, “David is very faithful to you. Not one of your other officers is as faithful as David. He is your own son-in-law and the captain of your bodyguards. Your own family respects David.

Benaiah son of Jehoiada did many more brave things like that. He was as famous as the Three Heroes.

The following men were among the Thirty Heroes: Asahel, the brother of Joab; Elhanan son of Dodo from Bethlehem;

An enemy might be able to defeat one person, but two people can stand back-to-back to defend each other. And three people are even stronger. They are like a rope that has three parts wrapped together—it is very hard to break.
