2 Kings 22:13

King Josiah said, “Go and ask the Lord what we should do. Ask for me, for the people, and for all Judah. Ask about the words of this book that was found. The Lord is angry with us, because our ancestors did not listen to the words of this book. They did not obey all the commands that were written for us.”

The great day for their anger has come. No one can stand against it.”

Before I knew the law, I was alive. But when I heard the law’s command, sin began to live,

because the law can only bring God’s anger on those who disobey it. But if there is no law, then there is nothing to disobey.

because no one can be made right with God by following the law. The law only shows us our sin.

No one can stand against his great anger. No one can endure his terrible anger. His anger will burn like fire. The rocks will shatter when he comes.

When the Lord GOD decides to do something, he will first tell his servants, the prophets.

We have not obeyed the Lord our God. He used his servants, the prophets, and gave us laws, but we have not obeyed his laws.

Our ancestors sinned against you, and now they are dead. And we are suffering because of their sins.

We promised to make sacrifices to the Queen of Heaven, and we will do everything we promised. We will offer sacrifices and pour out drink offerings in worship to her. We did that in the past. Our ancestors, our kings, and our officials did that in the past. All of us did those things in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. When we worshiped the Queen of Heaven, we had plenty of food. We were successful. Nothing bad happened to us.

Then King Zedekiah sent for Jeremiah and had him brought to the palace. Zedekiah talked to Jeremiah in private. He asked Jeremiah, “Is there any message from the Lord?” Jeremiah answered, “Yes, he said that you will be given to the king of Babylon.”

But you people have sinned more than your ancestors. You are very stubborn, and you are doing only what you want to do. You are not obeying me. Because you do only what you want to do,

With every step you take, think about what he wants, and he will help you go the right way.

We sinned just as our ancestors did. We were wrong; we did bad things!

God, you are awesome! No one can stand against you when you are angry.

The Lord tells his secrets to his followers. He teaches them about his agreement.

They stood there for about three hours, and the people read the Book of the Law of the Lord their God. Then for three more hours they confessed their sins and bowed down to worship the Lord their God.

The king said, “Go, ask the Lord for me and for the people who are left in Israel and in Judah. Ask about the words in the book that was found. The Lord is very angry with us because our ancestors did not obey the Lord’s word. They did not do everything this book says to do.”

Our ancestors were not faithful and did what the Lord says is evil. They stopped following him. They no longer paid any attention to the Lord’s house and turned their backs on him.

But Jehoshaphat said, “Surely one of the Lord’s prophets is here. Let’s ask the prophet what the Lord says we should do.” One of the servants of the king of Israel said, “Elisha son of Shaphat is here. Elisha was Elijah’s servant.”

Don’t worship or serve idols of any kind, because I, the Lord, am your God. I hate my people worshiping other gods. People who sin against me become my enemies, and I will punish them. And I will punish their children, their grandchildren, and even their great-grandchildren.

So the Lord became angry with his people, and he raised his hand to punish them. Even the mountains shook with fear. Dead bodies were left in the streets like garbage. And he is not finished yet. He is still angry, and his arm is raised to continue punishing his people.

Perhaps they will ask the Lord to help them. Perhaps each person will stop doing bad things. The Lord has announced that he is very angry with them.”

“But if you don’t obey me and all my commands, bad things will happen to you.

“The Levites will say, ‘Cursed is the one who does not support this law and agree to obey it.’ “Then all the people will say, ‘Amen!’

But the Lord did not stop being angry with the people of Judah. He was still angry with them for everything that Manasseh had done.

You stood as judge and announced your decision. You saved the humble people of the land. From heaven you gave the decision, and the whole earth was silent and afraid.
