She saw the food at the king’s table. She saw his officials meeting together. She saw the servants in the palace and the good clothes they wore. She saw his parties and the sacrifices that he offered in the Lord’s Temple. She was so amazed, she could hardly breathe!

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and eat with you. And you will eat with me.

I tell you, women of Jerusalem, if you find my lover, tell him I am weak with love.

“Come, eat my food and drink the wine I have prepared.

Hurry and answer me, Lord! I have lost my courage. Don’t turn away from me. Don’t let me die and become like the people lying in the grave.

I feel weaker and weaker as I wait for you to save me. But I put my trust in your word.

So, Lord, please listen to my prayer. And listen to the prayers of all your other servants who are happy to honor you. Help me today as I ask the king for help. Make him pleased with me so that he will be kind and give me what I ask for.” At that time, I was the king’s wine servant.

She looked and saw the king standing by his column at the front entrance. The officers and the men who blew trumpets were near the king. The people of the land were happy and blowing trumpets. The singers were playing on instruments of music. They led the people in singing praises. Then Athaliah tore her clothes and said, “Treason! Treason!”

Now these men stand next to the King’s Gate on the east side. They were the gatekeepers from the tribe of Levi.

Workers had built a covered place inside the Temple area for the Sabbath meetings. But Ahaz removed the covered place and the outside entrance for the king. He removed all these from the Lord’s Temple. Ahaz did this because of the king of Assyria.

But I tell you that even Solomon, the great and rich king, was not dressed as beautifully as one of these flowers.

The queen of Sheba saw that Solomon was very wise. She also saw the beautiful palace he had built.

Then she said to King Solomon, “The stories I heard in my country about your great works and your wisdom are true.

This is what Solomon said to King Hiram:

“You remember that my father, King David, had to fight many wars all around him. So he was never able to build a temple to honor the Lord his God. King David was waiting until the Lord allowed him to defeat all his enemies.
