Three times each year Solomon offered burnt offerings and fellowship offerings on the altar that he built for the Lord. King Solomon also burned incense before the Lord and supplied what was needed for the Temple.

So Solomon completed his work on the Lord’s Temple. Work began the day they laid the foundation and continued without stopping until the day the Temple was finished.

“Three times a year all your men must come to meet with the Lord your God at the special place he will choose. They must come for the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the Festival of Harvest, and the Festival of Shelters. Everyone who comes to meet with the Lord must bring a gift.

I will do this because the people left me and burned incense to other gods. They made me angry because of all the bad things they have done. So I will pour out my anger on this place. Like a hot burning fire, my anger will not be put out!’

So my sons, don’t be lazy or waste any more time. The Lord chose you to serve him in the Temple and to burn incense.”

Amram’s sons were Aaron and Moses. Aaron was chosen for a special work. He and his descendants were chosen to always be the ones to do this special work—to prepare the holy things for the Temple service. They were the ones to burn the incense before the Lord, to serve him as priests and give blessings to the people in his name forever.

The Temple was finished in the month of Bul, the eighth month of the year, in Solomon’s eleventh year as king. It took seven years to build the Temple. It was built exactly as planned.

“Three times each year all your men must go to be with the Lord GOD, the God of Israel.

“Aaron must burn sweet-smelling incense on the altar every morning. He will do this when he comes to care for the lamps.

Every year the young women of Israel would go out for four days to remember the daughter of Jephthah from Gilead and to cry for her.

Solomon finished building the main part of the Temple and then covered it inside with cedar boards.
