If we say that we have no sin, we are fooling ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

Whoever believes in the Son of God has the truth that God told us. But people who do not believe God make God a liar, because they do not believe what God told us about his Son.

If we say we know God but do not obey his commands, we are lying. The truth is not in us.

We love you because of the truth—the truth that lives in us. That truth will be with us forever.

Lord, if you punished people for all their sins, no one would be left alive.

I write to you, children, because you know the Father. I write to you, fathers, because you know the one who existed from the beginning. I write to you, young people, because you are strong. The word of God lives in you, and you have defeated the Evil One.

“I swear these things are true! Who can prove that I lied? Who can show that I am wrong?”

Let the teaching of Christ live inside you richly. Use all wisdom to teach and counsel each other. Sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

My dear children, you belong to God, so you have already defeated these false prophets. That’s because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

“People cannot really be pure. They cannot be more right than God!

But still, you say, ‘I am innocent. God is not angry with me.’ So I will also judge you guilty of lying, because you say, ‘I have done nothing wrong.’

Whoever accepts what he says has given proof that God speaks the truth.
